Citizenship Preparation

US Citizenship

This class is for U.S. Permanent Residents who are ready to prepare for the U.S. Citizenship interview and exam. Subjects include American History and Government. Get help filling out the N-400 application. Class is taught in English with study materials provided in Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, and more. English as a Second Language (ESL)

Learn English with a combination of traditional methods and modern technology! You will practice speaking, listening, reading, and writing with a teacher, and you will use the BurlingtonEnglish computer program for pronunciation parctice.

The cost is $30 three times a year for BurlingtonEnglish. There is no textbook, no class fee, and no registration fee.

How to Register

You can register during an Orientation held each month and start class the following Monday. Please arrive at the Orientation on time and plan to stay for all three hours. Bring $30 in exact cash or check (no credit cards). Identification is not necessary.

You will take an English test and learn how to use the BurlingtonEnglish computer program. No children are allowed.

Ventura Adult and Continuing Education is at 5280 Valentine Road, Ventura. Go to the second floor and follow the signs.

Classes begin in August and continue until June. We open the classes to new students several times during the school year. Students who begin after August will be joining a class already in progress.

The instructor alternates teaching between two levels in one classroom. Instead of a book, each student pays $30 each session for BurlingtonEnglish. Register in class during class hours on the first day of each session.

ESL Computers for English Learners at VACE Campus

Students can use computers for BurlingtonEnglish and Rosetta Stone as well as learn Keyboarding, Introduction to Computers, Searching the Internet, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Email. Because this is not a class, students can come for as many or as few days as they wish. Register in Room 225 during lab hours.

Plaza Comunitaria Literacy Program

Spanish Language Elementary to High School Education

La Plaza Comunitaria de VUSD es un esfuerzo de colaboración con el Instituto Nacional para la Educación de Adultos de México (INEA) donde los adultos que hablan español (de 15 a 100 años de edad) pueden aprender de una amplia gama de habilidades desde el principio de la alfabetización hasta cursos de la escuela secundaria. La instrucción se ofrece en español y se ofrece cuidado de niños. Las clases se ofrecen en la Escuela Primaria Sheridan Way, en Salón 29 de 5 a 7 pm los martes y jueves.

Clases en español de preparación para el GED

GED® en Español

Un GED es equivalente a un diploma de escuela secundaria, bachillerato o prepa. El examen consta de cuatro temas:

• matemáticas
• estudios sociales
• ciencia
• lectura (incluye la escritura)

Cada tema se analiza por separado. Para pasar hay que sacar por lo menos 150 en cada tema y una puntuación media de 600 o más.

Las clases se imparten en español y el examen es en español. El certificado es el mismo ya sea que tome el examen en español o inglés. Los cuatro temas se deben tomar en un solo idioma.

Las clases de preparación son gratis. Hay cargos adicionales para las pruebas y tendrá que pagar los honorarios de su prueba directamente a GED Testing Service, no VACE.

Todas las pruebas de GED serán en computadora. Las pruebas se pueden tomar en VACE u otra institución de pruebas; usted no puede tomarla en casa. Su maestro le ayudará a crear una cuenta de GED en línea y a registrarse para hacer pruebas.

Mecanografía y habilidades informáticas son esenciales. Se incluirán en las clases de preparación.
