Citizenship

Class meets for 10 weeks on Tuesdays from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Apple iBasics: iPhone, iPad, iPod

Learn to use your Apple iPhone, iPad, or iPod from our own Mac Guy, Terry Wieser! You can enhance your career and your personal life by using the features and apps available from Apple. Learn simple to complex functions, including the synch feature, popular apps, Wi-Fi and 3G, setting up email accounts, Airplay and Apple TV, personal and business uses, calendar, video editing, music, and iCloud.

Class meets for 10 weeks on Tuesdays from 6 pm to 9 pm.

iLife: Apple Literacy for Novices

Students will gain proficiency using Apple iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch devices. Through hands-on demonstrations and one-on-one teaching, participants will perform basic tasks including emailing, viewing the Web, and using advanced device features.

Class meets for 10 weeks on Wednesdays from 9 am to 11 am.

Self-Publishing on the Amazon Kindle

By the end of this course, students will have developed, written, edited, formatted, created a cover, compiled, published, and will begin to market an entire Amazon Kindle publication. Students are free to come with either a completed manuscript or an idea for a short novel. By the second class, they will be working with their piece to create an attractive retail package and begin their journey as an independent author.

Are You Looking For Work?
WIA/VACE Collaboration

If yes, VACE has two Federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) grants that may help pay for education, training and job placement. Choose either our Adult or Youth Program based on these questions:

Are you a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident and legal to work in the United States? If yes, go to next question.

Do you live in Ventura County? If yes, go to next question.

If you are male born after 1960, are you registered for Selective Service or willing to register for Selective Service? If yes or if female, go to next question. (If you don’t know what the Selective Service is, go to sss.gov for more info)

Are you between 17 and 21 years old, low income, and have NOT yet graduated high school or passed the GED? If yes, you can apply for our WIA Youth Program. If no, go to next question.

WIA/VACE Youth Program

Are you at least 18 years old and you already have at least a high school diploma or GED certificate? If yes, you can apply for our WIA Adult Program.

NCCT Phlebotomy Testing Center

Ventura Adult and Continuing Education provides Phlebotomy and Medical Assistant certification testing services through National Center for Competency Testing. If you need to take a test leading to certification, you can register and take the test at Technology Development Center, 5200 Valentine Road in Ventura. There is a $30 testing fee (waived for TDC students) as well as an exam fee.

The next available testing dates are Spetember 13, 2010, and November 1, 2011. You must complete an application form and make your $30 payment along with the exam fee by August 23 for the September 13 test and by October 11 for the November test. Call Leticia Murillo at 289-1644, ext. 1103, for further information. Prometric and Pearson/VUETesting Center

Ventura Adult and Continuing Education provides testing services through Pearson/VUE and Prometric for such companies as Cisco, COMPTIA, and Microsoft, among others. If you need to take a test leading to licensure, certification and assessment programs offered by these leading testing services, you can register for the test you require at the web sites for either pearsonvue.com or prometric.com and take the test at Technology Development Center, 5200 Valentine Road in Ventura. Official Typing and Calculating Tests

Ventura Adult and Continuing Education offers certified typing and calculator testing. Please call 805-289-1744, ext. 1219 to schedule a testing appointment.

  • Tests are scheduled on Tuesdays from 12 pm to 1 pm
  • Tests are monitored by an instructor
  • Maximum of 20 minutes to practice before actual test begins
  • Typing: Four 5-minute timings will be given on a computer
  • Typing: Applicant needs to type at least 35 words-per-minute with no more than five errors
  • Calculator: One timing will be given on a calculator
  • Calculator: Applicant needs to type at least 135 keystrokes-per-minute with 99% accuracy
  • The cost is $5 (non-refundable)
  • Picture identification is required
  • When you pass the test, instructor will issue a certificate
  • Keep the original certificate in a safe place and make copies for employers or to submit with application materials
  • Test certificates are valid for one year from date of testing
